Return to Weddell Family History
The following images, which show pages from the bible of Newton5, record important family events in his life, and demonstrate how invaluable such sources can be to genealogical research. I am grateful to Maxine Smallwood-Weddell and her family for permission to reproduce them here.
The admonition to a potential thief on the left hand side of the second image is particularly interesting. Dated November 17th 1861 it reads (spelling modernised):
"Steal not this book my honest friend,
For fear the gallows be thy end,
And when you die the Lord will say,
Where's that book you stole away from
Newton Weddell."
